1. There's an argument by John Searle that goes something like this: a. Bob said, 'I promise to give Jane money' b. If someone says they promise to do something, then they're obliged to do it. c. You ought to do whatever you're obliged to do. d. Therefore Bob ought to give Jane money. Is this a way to
derive an 'ought' from 'is'. Is it a way that can tell us how ethical norms
arise? 2. Do ethical statements have a truth value?
