It

In his
skeptical argument Descartes conceives the possibility of a certain
Demon in order to cast doubt on some of our most basic 'knowledge'.
Describe and critically analyse the role that this Demon plays in the
argument. Is it really possible to doubt the things that Descartes
says that we can doubt because of the possibility of the Demon?
NB.
I have found in the past that in answering questions concerning God, students are
inclined to reference popular religious websites or apologetical
literature. This is usually a bad idea, since the relevant issues are not
usually covered with appropriate thoroughness or philosophical
sophistication. Try to concentrate on the arguments and counterarguments
(and counter-counter arguments) as they are given in respectable
philosophical sources.
