The Tutorial Participation mark for this course is out of 10, and is made up of two components: tutorial attendance (out of 5); tutorial participation (also out of 5). Here is how the marks are allocated:

Excellent participation: well-prepared, insightful, cooperative with other students.

Contributed often and well.

Contributed something worthwhile most weeks.

Contributed something most weeks, but did not give much evidence of preparation.

Contributed infrequently, occasionally had something to add when called on; often replied “don’t know” or “aren’t sure” or the equivalent.

Did not contribute significantly.

 

Adequate performance in the Discussion Topics (see below) is an important part of participation the tutorial. 

 


 

Discussion Topics

 

Each week you will be given a question from a set of questions related to that week's lectures.  The questions sets are listed in the links below. You will be expected to be able to discuss the question - perhaps with some insight from the lectures, but some of the questions are very open-ended.
